Thursday, 19 April
Today I will:
~Synthesize my research findings by completing a draft of a research essay on careers or an international current event
~Describe and articulate freedom, equality, and other concepts related to dystopian fiction based on my prior knowledge and life experience by participating in quick-writes and a four-corners debate
~Define dystopian fiction by reading/watching nonfiction articles/videos and completing assessments for learning
Agenda:
Warm-up: Freedoms Four-Corners, continued (slideshow here)
~Google Form: TED-ED video + assessment for learning
~Take notes as you read (Mr. Gideon will stamp your notes for participation credit)
~Use the remaining class time to continue drafting and revising your research essays
All students who show up with a complete draft tomorrow (Friday) will be entered into a burrito raffle. 1 student will win a burrito of your choice from Jamul Meat Market.
Homework:
~Read your independent book // Be prepared to reflect on your reading via Google Forms and Flipgrid on Monday.
~Complete 1st draft of essays due tomorrow!

Today I will:
~Apply my knowledge of the conventions of academic writing by revising my essay and completing a revision checklist/handout
~Explain elements of dystopian fiction by participating in group poster presentations and taking notes attentively
Agenda:
Warm-up: 5-minute quick write (be quiet; share with the class after):
What invention has had the largest impact on humans? Has it been a completely positive force, or also negative?
~Dystopian Elements group posters: table groups will create posters that illustrate, define, and give an example of each of the elements common to most works of dystopian fiction (note-taker page & basic info distributed in class)
~Essay revision & proofreading checklist (Mr. Gideon will walk you through this & distribute handouts.)
Homework:
~Read your independent book // Be prepared to reflect on your reading via Google Forms and Flipgrid on Monday.
~Essay final drafts due before class on Monday, uploaded to Turnitin.com
